- 17 December 1891 born in Anhui, China- became a national scholar from the Boxer Rebellion Indemnity Scholarship Program.- 16 August 1910, sent to study agriculture at Cornell University- after receiving his undergraduate degree, went to Columbus University to study philosophy- supported from Chen Duxiu, edit of the influential journal New Youth, caught attention- published several political newspapers with his friends after he quit New Youth in 1920s- served chancellor of Peking University between 1946 to 1948- president of the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Nanking, Taipei at the age of 71- buried in a tomb in Hu Shi Park, by the Academia Sinica campus- His work fell into dispute in Chinese 1986 article, written by Ji Xian.- deeply influenced by american culture- established broad social contacts in and outside the US government.- spoke numerous times to the American public about Chinese culture- He assumed the Chinese ambassadorship to the United States during China's War of Resistance Against Japan and made outstanding contributions to Sino-American cooperation and joint opposition to Japanese fascism.- served at the China Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture (China Foundation) for decades
